Self-indulgent clutter

Lazy mind, self-indulgent and looping, bringing no relief to a clogged head. How can I ‘simplify’ with a clogged head? Ha. That’s what simplification is really about. Clearing the head. Self-indulgent and lack of discipline is like letting it all hang out.

The physical metaphor to this situation goes something like this: I expend energy to put things away, to put things in place. And then I do it again tomorrow and the day after. Sometimes I ‘zen’ into it; sometimes it’s a bit of a bore; sometimes I’d rather do something else entirely and am feeling hindered by the clutter. So I get fed up or lose interest in putting things away.

What if, instead, I expend energy creating systems and structure, and these systems then help keep things in place with minimal effort on my part. [I’m still wondering why things need to have place initially, I defer to the feng shui experts for that one.] This would be an investment of energy at the beginning of a situation or project that would pay off in time and, more importantly, provide relief from the things I don’t want to do repetitively or excessively.

Sounds so simple, yet, so often it doesn’t happen. Why not? We have unnecessary and/or too much stuff (so unconsciously, why would we want to make a ‘place’ for it?); we want Fun not work (and planning is Work to some) and therefore don’t make time for it; we are out of practice and don’t know where to start; we are so accustomed to the situation that any other form just seems foreign; perhaps we just never thought it possible.

If one of these is your story, you have choice. Continue telling the same story or change it. Be pro-active and set aside a block of time to identify the problem, brain-storm a solution, and execute. If you want more help, ideas, or assistance, contact someone who can help. Yes, there are people ‘out there’ who actually love doing this stuff :)
